Privacy Policy

Hey Pip ("Hey Pip", "we", "us") helps parents and carers track their young child's early language and developmental milestones. We take your family's privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written to comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who uses Hey Pip

Hey Pip is intended for use by adults (parents and carers) to record information about their own child. It is not directed at or intended for use by children. You are responsible for the information you choose to enter about your child.

Information we collect

• Account information — the email address and password you use to create an account. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us in plain text.
• Your child's profile — the first name (or nickname) and date of birth you enter, used to tailor milestones, sounds and suggestions to their age.
• Words, phrases and moments — the words, phrases, "little sayings", notes and developmental "firsts" you log, together with the dates you add them.
• Audio recordings — if you choose to record a word, the short audio clip is sent to our speech-to-text provider to convert it into text. Audio is used only to produce that transcription and is not used to build an advertising or voice profile.
• Photos — any photo you optionally attach to a moment.
• Subscription status — whether you have an active Hey Pip Plus subscription (managed via Apple and our subscriptions provider). We never see or store your card details.
• Basic technical/diagnostic data — limited, standard information needed to keep the app running reliably.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Why we use it (legal bases)

• To provide the app — storing and syncing your child's words, moments and progress (performance of our contract with you).
• To transcribe recordings — converting audio you record into text (performance of our contract; you initiate each recording).
• To enable co-parent sharing — where you invite a partner, so you can both contribute to the same child's record (your consent / performance of our contract).
• To keep the service secure and working — diagnostics and abuse prevention (our legitimate interests).

Service providers we share with

We use a small number of trusted providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, only to deliver Hey Pip:

• Google Firebase — authentication and cloud database/storage. Your child's data is stored in Google's data centres in the United Kingdom / Europe (London region).
• AssemblyAI — speech-to-text transcription of audio you choose to record.
• RevenueCat — managing subscription status (no payment details).
• Apple — App Store distribution and processing of any subscription payment.

Where any provider processes data outside the UK/EEA, that transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards such as UK-approved Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and your child's records for as long as your account is active, so your keepsakes are there when you want them. If you delete your account, we delete your associated data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet a legal obligation.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your information, and to data portability. To exercise any of these, or to delete your account and its data, contact us at pyt.vuong@gmail.com and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with a reputable cloud provider. Access is restricted to what is needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your family's information.

Children's information

Hey Pip is designed for parents and carers to record information about their own child. Because the information about your child is entered and controlled by you, you decide what to add and can delete it at any time. If you believe a child has created an account directly, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
